Speakers at this symposium will approach the question of political organisation in relation to three interrelated concerns. First, we are interested in scrutinising political organisations globally and locally which represent a new politics of the radical left. Second, we will analyse new ways of doing political organising, both parliamentary and extra-parliamentary, that have developed in the five years since Occupy. Third, we will connect these realities with new ways of thinking about political organisation and the challenges that these put to the state and the reign of capital.
Presentations will reflect a diversity of connections within the radical left in Aotearoa. While not shying away from difficult questions and inevitable disagreements, this day will provide an opportunity for speakers and participants to work together in building the world that is currently arising out of the ruins of the present.
The symposium will run 9.00am-5.00pm, Tuesday 4 October 2016, at the University of Auckland.
Attendance is free but space is limited so registration is necessary. To register please email Shannon Walsh: s.walsh@auckland.ac.nz
