Finn recently completed a Master’s thesis at the University of Auckland, which critically examined the metaphysical assumptions of Western liberalism and modern political thought, a topic that remains a central research interest of his.  He played an integral role in the organisation ‘We Are the University’ (WATU) between 2012 and 2014, which opposed the increasing privatization and costs of tertiary education,  and is currently an active member of Auckland Action Against Poverty with a key position in the organisation’s education working group.

As well as taking part in the strategic development of ESRA, Finn is currently part of a team leading a collaborative research project addressing the organisational and strategic impasses reproduced by the left in Aotearoa, and possible ways of overcoming them.
