I'm a union organiser and I currently donate $20 a week to ESRA. Growing inequality and continued environmental degradation are the hallmarks of capitalism. It is becoming increasingly clear that we need new ways of thinking and new methodology to combat the cultural dominance of neo-liberalism. We need stronger links between quality research and activist organisations to be able to counter this narrative and I see ESRA as a vital part of our various struggles for a fairer and more equal society.

I am passionate about creating change in Aotearoa - change that directly addresses the gap between the rich and poor, the damage from colonisation and the oppression that many still face today in different forms. To do this, I believe that we need the tools to dismantle harmful myths, and bring together transformative knowledges of our own. I only donate a small regular amount to ESRA, as I'm on a part time wage - but to me, it represents the trust and confidence I have in this project. I am excited and hopeful for where this mahi will lead.

ESRA is trying to launch on an absolutely shoe-string budget, primarily through the work of volunteers, and I think it needs all the support it can get. As I have three young children, live in Auckland, and can only find work on short-term contracts, life often feels pretty precarious. I give to ESRA because I see my AP as a way of creating a better life for my children and for future generations.
