Raised in West Auckland and Napier, Ben has a connection to both of these places as well as his current home in Auckland City. His research to date has focussed on theoretical interrogations of questions of political organisation, contemporary art, sovereignty/tino rangatiratanga and contemporary critical theory.

His community activism began in his first year of tertiary study, where a sustained engagement with radical theory and a new culture of student activism proved suitable materials for a strong political development. Since that time, he has worked with groups including Blockade the Budget, We Are The University, Auckland Action Against Poverty, Show Us Ya Text and Real Choice, as well as being active in support and solidarity with numerous other groups.

Within ESRA, Ben is part of a team leading a collaborative research project on political organisation which aims to explore how the organisational and strategic limitations experienced by the left in Aotearoa today can be overcome.
